Early Life & Education
Princess Ameerah al Taweel was born November 6, 1983, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She is the daughter of Aidan bin Nayef Al-Taweel Al-Otaibi, a member of the house of Saud. Her first big break came at age 18 when she landed an interview for a school paper with Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal.
We just clicked, she muses over the ten-minute chance meeting of a lifetime opportunity. He was equally smitten it was the door to a new world for the young Ameerah, and she undoubtedly made the most of it.
The Princess graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Haven with a degree in Business Administration, developing her already natural business and political acumen.
Humanitarian Activities
Princess Ameerah is probably best known today, not for being the ex-wife of a Saudi Billionaire, but as an outstanding woman in society who has dedicated her life to improving a lot of those less fortunate than herself. The Princes currently serve on the executive committee of the Al-Waleed bin Talal Foundation in Saudi Arabia.
The foundation oversees the implementation of residential, and social empowerment of women through education, medical health, and humanitarian assistance to national charities in the country.
The foundation also undertakes a wide range of humanitarian activities around the world, supporting projects aimed at reducing poverty, relief, interfaith dialogue, and importantly, giving a voice to women who do not have one, empowering women to become active in a strongly male-dominated culture.
The remarkable Princess travels worldwide to acquaint Al-Waleed bin Talal Foundation, a nonprofit making organization, with the challenges and concerns of some of the most disadvantaged people in the world. This mission has taken her to over 71 countries where the implementation of designated projects earmarked by the foundation are carried out.
Involvement as Change Agent
Young people in all countries are both a major human resource for development and key agents for social change, economic development, and technological innovation. These sentiments were expressed by the Princess during the World Program of Action of Youth for the year 2000 and beyond, she has proven that to her such statements are more than platitudes, implementing programs to engage and encourage youth engagement in many of the countries she has visited.
Among other humanitarian achievements, Princess Ameerah has inaugurated the Alwaleed Bin Talal Village orphanage in Burkina Faso, provided relief to Pakistan’s flood victims, and in collaboration with Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburg opened the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre of Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge.
NBC’s Today, CNN International, NPR, Time magazine, and Foreign Policy magazine interviewed Princess Ameerah about her work, and she has also been featured in Newsweek, The Daily Beast, and The Huffington Post, among other leading newspapers.
In a special session at the 2011 Clinton Global Initiative titled Voices for Change in the Middle East & North Africa, the Princess described the movement of change for women as one of evolution, not revolution.
Rose on Bloomberg regarded the princess with high esteem, saying she had created lasting linkages for the cause of equal rights and women’s empowerment in Saudi Arabia through the Alwaleed Foundation.
Princess’s Major Accomplishments
The Al Waleed bin Talal Foundation is actively involved with centers for study at Harvard University, Georgetown University, University of Edinburgh, University of Cambridge, American University of Beirut, and the American University in Cairo. The foundation aims at influencing change for better understanding between the Islamic and the Western world.
Silatech partners with such organizations as Saudi Fund for Development, the AGFUND, the Islamic Development Bank, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Kuwait Fund, to provide funding for regional development to establish microfinance institutions in undertaking youth empowerment.
Silatech assisted 25,000 young Arabs to gain entrance into gainful employment in the 2008 – 2013 period running.
Awards
2011, Princess Ameerah accepted the ITP Special Humanitarian Award on behalf of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation at the Arabian Business Achievement ceremony Awards.
2012 – Awarded, 100 Most Powerful Arab Women high-profile newcomer to CEO Middle East, bagging fourth place.
She received the Middle East Woman Personality of the Year Award for Excellence.

মদ-নারী-ব্যাভিচার সবই চলে সৌদি রাজপরিবারে, অভিযোগ প্রিন্সেস আমিরা’র
সম্প্রতি দুর্নীতির দায়ে আটক হয়েছিলেন সৌদি যুবরাজ আল ওয়ালিদ বিন তালাল। এবার তার বিরুদ্ধে উঠল নারী বিক্রি, মদ ও ব্যাভিচারে লিপ্ত থাকার অভিযোগ।
আর এই অভিযোগগুলো তুলেছেন তার সাবেক স্ত্রী আমিরা বিনতে আইডেন বিন নায়েফ। যদিও তিনি যুবরাজের কর্মকাণ্ডের কারণে বেশ আগেই তার সঙ্গে সম্পর্কচ্ছেদ করেছেন।
সম্প্রতি রাজ পরিবারের অন্ধকার দিকের বর্ণনা তুলে ধরে আমিরা বলেন, সৌদি পরিবারকে বাইরে থেকে যতোটা ভদ্র ও ধর্মভীরু বলে মনে হয়, বাস্তবতা সম্পূর্ণ উল্টো! তিনি জানান, তার সাবেক স্বামীসহ রাজপরিবারের অনেকেই অর্থ পাচারসহ নানা অপকর্মের সঙ্গে জড়িত। এক কথায় বলতে গেলে এহেন কোনো অপকর্ম নেই যা তারা করেন না।
তিনি আরও জানান, জেদ্দা শহরকে এরা দাস বাজারে পরিণত করেছেন। সেখানে অল্প বয়সী নারী বিক্রি থেকে শুরু করে মদ, সেক্স পার্টির মতো সব রকম ব্যভিচারই হয়ে থাকে। পুলিশ এসবের ব্যাপারে অবহিত থাকলেও শুধুমাত্র চাকরি হারানোর ভয়ে কোনো উদ্যোগ নেয় না। কেননা, শহরের সব অপরাধের পেছনে সৌদি রাজ পরিবারের সদস্যরা প্রত্যক্ষভাবে জড়িত। আর সে কারণেই সৌদি পরিবারের পুরুষেরা ব্যভিচারের চূড়ান্ত করে আসছে।
আমিরা সম্প্রতি হেলোউইন পার্টির উদাহরণ তুলে ধরেন। বলেন, সেই পার্টিতে সর্বসাকুল্যে দেড়শ’ মানুষ জড়ো হয়েছিলেন। যাদের ভেতরে কূটনৈতিক কর্মকর্তারাও ছিলেন। সেখানে সেদিন যা হয়েছে তা বাইরের দেশের কোনো নাইট ক্লাবের থেকে আলাদা ছিল না।
সৌদি আরবে মদ নিষিদ্ধ হলেও সেই পার্টিতে তরল পদার্থটির বন্যা বয়ে গিয়েছিল। সেই ডিজে পার্টিতে ওয়াইন, জুটিদের নাচ, নানান ধরনের পোশাক পরা সবই হয়েছিল।
আমিরা জানান, সৌদি আরবে মদ নিষিদ্ধ হওয়ায় কালো বাজারে এটির প্রচুর দাম। উদাহরণ হিসেবে তিনি বলেন, সেখানে এক বোতল স্মিরনফ ভদকা কিনতে গেলে প্রায় দেড় হাজার রিয়াল গুনতে হয়। টাকার হিসেবে যা প্রায় ৩৩ হাজার। কখনও কখনও সেসব পার্টিতে আয়োজকেরা আসল মদের বোতলে স্থানীয় মদ ঢুকিয়ে সার্ভ করে থাকে। স্থানীয় সেই সব ওয়াইনকে তারা সিদ্দিকী নামে চেনে।
আমিরা বলেন, সৌদি আরবে দাসপ্রথা এখনও রয়েছে। তবে সেটি গোপনে এবং অন্যভাবে হয়ে থাকে। রাজপরিবারের কিছু সুবিধাভোগী ব্যক্তি সেখানে দাস বিক্রি করে থাকেন।
